Most breeders define a traditional Ragdoll as being a Ragdoll cat that has only seal, blue, chocolate, or lilac Ragdoll cats in its pedigree. Raggedy Ann Buckwheat is allowed in these pedigrees although she is a solid black mitted: this is because she is recorded as being the daughter of Josephine.
The definition from The Traditionalist Ragdoll Club (UK) is a Ragdoll that conforms to the above statement plus all the pedigree lines must trace back to Josephine.
Ragdoll cats that conform to the above statements are becoming a smaller group of cats within the gene pool, as once a tabby, red series, solid or outcross Ragdoll appears in the pedigree the resulting offspring are not classed as traditional Ragdolls. This does not change as you move down the generations.
The first Ragdolls imported into the UK were from the Blossom Time Cattery in America, these Ragdolls were the foundation lines for Ragdolls bred in the United Kingdom and the offspring from these lines became known as 'English' or 'Blossom Time' lines.
These imports were:- Blossom time Romeo Blossom time Proper Blossom time Bananas Blossom time Lad
Blossom time Lass Blossom time Camellia Blossom time Pistil Blossom time Juliet Blossom time Prim Blossom time Spring Blossom time Summer Blossom time Myrtie
In the late 1980's early 90's other breeders began to import more blood lines, some of these Ragdolls traced in their lineage back to Josephine, others due to Ann Baker refusing to register her Ragdolls with American registering bodies did not trace back. Many of the registering bodies in America began to refuse to register IRCA Ragdolls due to Ann Bakers threats of lawsuits.
The Ragdoll cats that were imported that our traditional lines have descended from that trace to Josephine were
Villaroyal Yankee Doodle Dandy Catastrophe Lilac Princess Catastrophe Lilac blossom Catastrophe Jasmine Catastrophe Jack Frost jnr Hemlock trails Blue Moon Rockwood acre Mapel Hemlock trails Tirawa Meadowpurrs Melody Villaroyal Blue Mist Villaroyal Lady Bird Verena aus dem Soon Mounthope Blue Crystal Villaroyal Blue Belle
We are building a breeding program around these Ragdolls, our aim is to breed Ragdoll kittens with size, true Ragdoll type and correct semi longhaired coat. That will make loving pets and show champions. Never loosing sight of how a Ragdoll should look by comparing our kittens to the many articles, personal correspondence, photographs sent to us from Ann Baker founder of the Ragdoll cat. We also plan to breed pure blossom time line Ragdoll with low efficient of inbreeding, incorporating this breeding program with the traditional lines and also as a separate gene pool.
We are very aware of the gene pool within the Ragdoll cat breed, due to this we have carefully chosen to include a third group of Ragdolls in our breeding program. These Ragdolls show no red, tabby or solid Ragdolls in their pedigrees, their lines do not show any other breeds of cat. We are unable to trace these pedigrees in every line back to Josephine, many breeders feel that these Ragdolls are still traditional; to avoid confusion we class these Ragdolls as another group. Many of the Ragdolls in this group do trace to Raggedy Ann and blossom time Ragdolls. Others trace back to the purple heather Ragdolls of which we have managed to trace all but 4 purple heather foundation cats back to Josephine. We feel as this group incorporates different Raggedy Ann and Blossom Time Ragdolls into the gene pool we are happy to continue breeding from them, as one of our aims is to reduce the high inbreeding often found in Ragdolls.
The Ragdoll cats in our pedigrees that don't trace back to Josephine are -
Ragnarok's Jordan
Ragnarok's Honey
Ragnarok's Milo
Marisa's Samsarra
Marisha's Blaze of Glory
Pochontas Blue Angel.
If you have evidence that any of the above mentioned cats DO trace back, would you be happy to share this information with us, to ensure accuracy on our pedigree data base? If so please contact us via the contact page.
We hope that our Ragdoll kittens can and will become part of your family, from a loving family pet, an addition to your breeding plans or perhaps even your next show Champion! Our aim is to produce these kittens from Champions, Best of Breed winners or parents that have produced Champions, Challenger Certificate winners or Best of Breed winners.
All kittens are from FELV, FIV and HCM tested negative parents.
